Since the early Roman times, couples have prized the month of June as the most favorable time to exchange their marriage vows. If you and your betrothed are planning a June wedding this season, you no doubt want everything to be beautiful. That would include your smile—and with the appropriate techniques we can help you make it as bright and attractive as possible.
Here are 5 ways to a more attractive wedding day smile.
Dental Cleaning and Teeth Whitening. A routine dental cleaning right before the ceremony can remove stains and dental plaque that dull your teeth's appearance. For an added level of brightness, we can also whiten your teeth in time for your big day.
Repairing defects with bonding. Do you have a chipped tooth, or a broken or discolored filling? We may be able to repair minor defects like these in a single visit by bonding lifelike dental materials directly to the tooth. We color-match and sculpt these materials so that they blend seamlessly with your natural teeth.
Advanced enhancements. In whatever ways your teeth may be flawed, there are dental solutions to transform your smile. We can correct minor to moderate chips, stains or slight gaps with porcelain veneers that cover the teeth's visible surface. We can cap a viable but unsightly tooth with a life-like crown. Missing teeth? A fixed bridge or dental implants could restore them like new.
Plastic gum surgery. Teeth may be the stars of your smile, but your gums are the supporting cast. Smiles with too much of the gums showing can be corrected through various techniques, including periodontal plastic surgery that reshapes the gums and can help the teeth appear more prominent.
Orthodontics. The original "smile transformer," braces and other orthodontic methods move misaligned teeth to better positions. Not only can orthodontic treatment result in a more attractive appearance, it can improve overall dental health.
You have an array of options for enhancing your wedding day smile, and we're more than happy to help you develop an individualized treatment plan. One caveat, though: some of these techniques could take weeks or months to complete, so don't delay!

Find out why so many people are choosing dental implants to replace their missing teeth.
Maybe you’ve heard about dental implants but you aren’t entirely sure what they are or how they work to replace missing teeth. If so, you’ve come to the right place. Our Silver Spring, MD, general dentists Dr. Gregory Hysong and Dr. Lynda LePore can tell you everything about this tooth replacement and the many advantages it can offer your smile.
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a metal restoration that is designed to replace your missing tooth’s roots. In order to do this, our Silver Spring, MD, general dentist will need to perform a minor in-office surgery in which we place the implant. Over time, the implants and jawbone will fuse together naturally, becoming one solid unit from which to support a false tooth.
What are the benefits of dental implants?
Since dental implants work a bit differently from other tooth replacement options, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that they offer some pretty unique benefits. Here are just some of the amazing benefits you’ll enjoy with dental implants:
Preserve Your Bone Health
A common complication of untreated tooth loss is bone loss. Since the missing tooth roots aren’t providing stimulation to the jawbone, this leads to bone loss over time. This problem will continue to happen unless a dental implant is used to replace the missing tooth roots. By getting an implant not long after tooth loss, you can preserve the jawbone’s natural structure.
Restore Chewing and Speaking
When you lose one or more teeth you may find it more difficult to chew certain foods properly. You may even notice that you’ve developed a speech impediment such as a lisp as a result of your tooth loss. You’ll be happy to hear that dental implants will fully restore function back into your smile, improving your speech and making it easier to enjoy all of your favorite foods.
Here at Colesville Dentistry in Silver Spring, MD, we want you to be able to feel confident in your smile. If you’re dealing with tooth loss, your general dentists are here to help. Call our office today to find out how dental implants could benefit you.
At the first-ever Players Weekend in August 2017, Major League Baseball players wore jerseys with their nicknames on the back. One player — Cleveland Indians shortstop, Francisco Lindor — picked the perfect moniker to express his cheerful, fun-loving nature: “Mr. Smile.” And Lindor gave fans plenty to smile about when he belted a 2-run homer into the stands while wearing his new jersey!
Lindor has explained that he believes smiling is an important part of connecting with fans and teammates alike: “I’ve never been a fan of the guy that makes a great play and then acts like he’s done it 10,000 times — smile, man! We’ve got to enjoy the game.”
We think Lindor is right: Smiling is a great way to generate good will. And it feels great too… as long as you have a smile that’s healthy, and that looks as good as you want it to. But what if you don’t? Here are some things we can do at the dental office to help you enjoy smiling again:
Routine Professional Cleanings & Exams. This is a great place to start on the road toward a healthy, beautiful smile. Even if you are conscientious about brushing and flossing at home, you won’t be able to remove all of the disease-causing dental plaque that can hide beneath the gum line, especially if it has hardened into tartar, but we can do it easily in the office. Then, after a thorough dental exam, we can identify any problems that may be affecting your ability to smile freely, such as tooth decay, gum disease, or cosmetic dental issues.
Cosmetic Dental Treatments. If your oral health is good but your smile is not as bright as you’d like it to be, we can discuss a number of cosmetic dental treatments that can help. These range from conservative procedures such as professional teeth whitening and bonding to more dramatic procedures like porcelain veneers or crowns.
Tooth Replacement. Many people hide their smiles because they are embarrassed by a gap from a missing tooth. That’s a shame, because there are several excellent tooth-replacement options in a variety of price ranges. These include partial and full dentures, bridgework, and dental implants. So don’t let a missing tooth stop you from being Mr. (or Ms.) Smile!

Get a whiter smile easily with a professional teeth whitening kit you can use in the convenience of your own home. Professional whitening products available through your dentist’s office deliver superior results over teeth whitening strips, toothpastes, and other products that are available over-the-counter. You can achieve whiter teeth in less time with longer lasting results when you use professional level whitening products. At Colesville Dentistry, Dr. Gregory Hysong and Dr. Lynda LePore are your dentists for professional teeth whitening in Silver Spring, MD.
Take-Home Teeth Whitening
Colesville Dentistry in Silver Spring offers professional-level teeth whitening kits you can use in the comfort and privacy of your own home. A whitening kit includes soft plastic trays that fit over the top and bottom rows of teeth. A professional strength whitening gel is included. To whiten your teeth at home, simply add the whitening gel to each tray. Then place the trays over each row of teeth. The trays should remain in place for approximately one hour to achieve maximum results. This process is repeated at home several times over the course of a few weeks.
Advantages of Professional Whitening
Several over-the-counter whitening products are available for use at home, including whitening strips, gels, toothpastes, and rinses. While these products are convenient, they cannot deliver the same level of whitening results as a professional strength whitening kit available through your dentist’s office. Professional whitening products contain a higher quality bleaching agent and can whiten your teeth by several shades in fewer treatments. Further, the results of professional whitening treatments last longer than over-the-counter products.
Professional at-home teeth whitening products from your dentist can help you achieve a whiter smile easily. The quality of professional teeth whitening treatments is superior to over-the-counter whitening products. You will achieve whiter results in less time with longer lasting results. To learn more about professional teeth whitening treatments in Silver Spring, MD schedule an appointment with Dr. Hysong or Dr. LePore by calling Colesville Dentistry at (301) 384-6000.
Magician Michel Grandinetti can levitate a 500-pound motorcycle, melt into a 7-foot-tall wall of solid steel, and make borrowed rings vanish and reappear baked inside bread. Yet the master illusionist admits to being in awe of the magic that dentists perform when it comes to transforming smiles. In fact, he told an interviewer that it’s “way more important magic than walking through a steel wall because you’re affecting people’s health… people’s confidence, and you’re really allowing people to… feel good about themselves.”
Michael speaks from experience. As a teenager, his own smile was enhanced through orthodontic treatment. Considering the career path he chose for himself — performing for multitudes both live and on TV — he calls wearing an orthodontic device (braces) to align his crooked teeth “life-changing.” He relies on his welcoming, slightly mischievous smile to welcome audiences and make the initial human connection.
A beautiful smile is definitely an asset regardless of whether you’re performing for thousands, passing another individual on a sidewalk or even, research suggests, interviewing for a job. Like Michael, however, some of us need a little help creating ours. If something about your teeth or gums is making you self-conscious and preventing you from smiling as broadly as you could be, we have plenty of solutions up our sleeve. Some of the most popular include:
- Tooth Whitening. Professional whitening in the dental office achieves faster results than doing it yourself at home, but either approach can noticeably brighten your smile.
- Bonding. A tooth-colored composite resin can be bonded to a tooth to replace missing tooth structure, such a chip.
- Veneers. This is a hard, thin shell of tooth-colored material bonded to the front surface of a tooth to change its color, shape, size and/or length; mask dental imperfections like stains, cracks, or chips, and compensating for excessive gum tissue.
- Crowns. Sometimes too much of a tooth is lost due to decay or trauma to support a veneer. Instead, capping it with a natural-looking porcelain crown can achieve the same types of improvements. A crown covers the entire tooth replacing more of its natural structure than a veneer does.
If you would like more information about ways in which you can transform your smile, please contact us or schedule an appointment for a consultation.
