If you’ve just gotten your teeth whitened you’ll want to nix certain foods if you want to maintain that brilliant smile.

It’s amazing how much whiter your smile can get after a teeth whitening treatment. And now that you’ve spent the time and the money toteeth whitening achieve that vibrant smile you’ll want to do whatever it takes to make sure that your results truly last. From our Silver Spring, MD dentists, Dr. Gregory Hysong and Dr. Lynda LePore, find out what foods you’ll want to limit or avoid altogether to keep your smile looking its best.

After getting your teeth whitened in Silver Spring you will want to limit certain foods and drinks:

  • Any dark drinks like black tea, coffee, red wine, fruit juices or soft drinks
  • Any dark, stain-causing foods like soy sauce, ketchup, tomato sauce, red meat, chocolate or fruit

A good rule of thumb to follow is if the food you are about to eat could stain a white shirt then you’ll want to avoid it. By consuming these foods and drinks right after your whitening session you risk restaining your teeth (and who wants to reverse their results?).

Of course, many of these foods will be ones that you’ll want to avoid or limit even after the first 24 hours. These foods and drinks can still cause stains and may hinder how long your whiter smile lasts. While teeth whitening treatment can leave teeth looking better for up to one year or more, you’ll certainly not keep your results as long if you eat any of the above items. Safe foods for your smile include:

  • Milk
  • Carrots
  • Fish
  • Apples
  • Cheese
  • Eggs
  • Bread
  • Bananas
  • White yogurt

If you are ready to find out how teeth whitening could improve your smile then it’s time you turned to Colesville Dentistry in Silver Spring, MD for all of your whitening needs.
